Public documentation
TaxWeave product facts, ready for agents and developers.
For connected assistants, start with the TaxWeave MCP tools at https://taxweave.ai/mcp. The HTTP API below remains available for existing integrations.
Search the published TaxWeave documentation, check current features, and estimate pricing from first-party sources. The public documentation API retrieves matching sections with source URLs. It requires no signup, API key, or product account.
When to use this
Use these resources when evaluating whether TaxWeave fits a tax firm, checking supported integrations, comparing current and planned capabilities, or answering pricing and onboarding questions. Cite the returned sources so the firm can verify the answer.
For product research, start with the product guide, pricing, structured product facts, or documentation index. Read the agent guide for browser tools and official skills.
Quickstart: find a published answer
Send a GET request with a query string. Pin the current public search contract with API-Version: 1, or omit the header to use the default.
curl --get 'https://taxweave.ai/ask' \
--data-urlencode 'query=Does TaxWeave file returns?' \
-H 'API-Version: 1'
The JSON response contains a results array of matching public sections. Each item includes its name, description, source URL, and grounding sources. The endpoint retrieves existing text; it does not generate a new answer.
POST requests and streaming
POST to the same endpoint with Content-Type: application/json and a query.text string. Queries must contain 1–500 characters; request bodies must fit within 8 KB of UTF-8 data.
{
"query": {"text": "What does TaxWeave cost for 250 clients?"},
"prefer": {"mode": "list", "streaming": false}
}
For server-sent events, set prefer.streaming to true, use streaming=true with GET, or request Accept: text/event-stream. The stream sends start, indexed result, and complete events. A search with no matches reports NO_RESULTS; it does not invent an answer.
Response and error contracts
Read the OpenAPI contract for typed requests, responses, and errors. The public search API major is 1; its separate NLWeb response version is 0.55.
- 200: matching public sections, or a NO_RESULTS failure when none match.
- 400: invalid query, malformed JSON, unsupported media type or API version, or a request above the size limit.
- 429: the search request budget is exhausted; wait for Retry-After before retrying.
- 404: an unknown API URL, with a JSON error and the correct search endpoint.
Error responses carry a machine-readable code, a message, and recovery guidance when available. The API returns at most five matching sections. It has no writes, pagination, or asynchronous jobs; search requests are safe to retry.
Rate limits
The search budget starts at 60 requests per IP and refills one request per second within each warm function instance. RateLimit-Limit, RateLimit-Remaining, and RateLimit-Reset describe that instance's budget on GET and POST responses, including invalid requests. This is best-effort per-instance enforcement, not a global distributed quota. A 429 response also supplies Retry-After.
Public information and product access
This endpoint searches public website information only. It does not access firm accounts or taxpayer documents, provide tax advice, file returns, or perform product actions. Keep client information out of search queries.
Firm account access follows an introductory call and onboarding. The website does not advertise a public product API or MCP server. Read access guidance and the privacy policy for current details.
Product-updates signup is a separate action
The OpenAPI contract also describes product-updates signup. That operation can change mailing-list membership and trigger a welcome email. Follow the updates signup guide and obtain explicit permission for the supplied email address. Product research, pricing questions, and booking do not imply consent.
